Yosemite Spring Trip ~ Landscape Photography

Sunday, May 15th, 2011 at 12:33am - Landscape

Springtime in Yosemite is my favorite time to visit the Valley. The water is pumping, the birds are singing, and everything is coming to life. I´ve been in Yosemite the last week, and its been completely magical and inspiring beyond measure.  I´ve been shooting a lot, and there´s been an abundance of beautiful light, intersting clouds, and fantastic conditions.  I hope you enjoy some of my daytime favorites that I´ve shot so far. I´ve also been shooting a lot at night, and am really excited to share some more nighttime images soon, so check back soon. Hope you´re well.

Moonlit Half Dome & Stars

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011 at 10:15pm - Landscape

When I was in Yosemite last week I went out one night with Tom Lowe of Timescapes and his awesome assistant Dustin, and Steve Bumgardner who produces the Yosemite Nature Notes series.  We all shot a timelapse that night out in Ahwahnee Meadow, and I also shot a few stills for fun.  Half Dome was gorgoeus illuminated by a half moon with the stars above!

Horsetail Falls Firefall Day 4

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011 at 3:12pm - Landscape

My fourth and final day of shooting Horsetail Falls "Firefall" in Yosemite was quite the adventure.  The clouds were coming in with an approaching storm, and it looked like it wasn´t going to happen, since it needs to be clear on the horizion for the last light to strike the falls.  The clouds wre looking really cool though, so I thought I might drive to another location in the Valley to shoot since it seemed like the "Firefall" wasn´t going to happen.  Well as i was driving around the Valley loop, I looked over to my left and all of the sudden the falls lit up with the most amazing orange glow that it looked like a ribbon of fire, or flowing lava.  I just happened to be driving by a spot that had a great view of the falls, so I pulled right over, and ran down by the river to try and get as clear and unobstructed view as I could.  I love moments like this :)

Horsetail Falls Firefall ~ Yosemite Landscape Photography

Friday, February 11th, 2011 at 1:10pm - Landscape

I´m in Yosemite for the next few days shooting a really cool occurrence that only happens for a few days each year, and only if the weather conditions setup just right to allow it to happen.  Horsetail Falls is a smaller waterfall in Yosemite, that flows off the east end of El Capitan.  Many people never even notice it, with Yosemite Falls, Vernal and Nevada Falls, Bridalveil Falls, and some of Yosemite´s other more famous waterfalls.

But once a year in February, and sometimes October, although not usually since the waterfalls are often dry that time of year; something special really happens.  For about 10 days the last light of the setting sun shines onto a narrow strip of El Cap lighting up Horsetail Falls in the process in a way which makes it seem like a firefall.

I´ll be here the next few days shooting different angles and ideas.  Do you have any favorites???  I´d love to hear as I spend the next few days here shooting.  Hope you´re having a wonderful day!

2010 Favorite Images

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011 at 7:38pm - Landscape

Yet another year has come and gone, and yet another new and exciting year begins.  I always love to take some time at the beginning of each year and contemplate on the previous year, both personally, and in my art and business.  One of the things I love to do is go through my favorite images from the previous year, and see where I grew.

This year I grew in so many ways, and looking back through the years photos, I can really see a whole new dimension in my work.  I also learned a lot about my business, and I will be implementing some new policies and procedures this year to streamline my workflows and make my turn around even more efficient.

So I ask your help.  I really want to know what your favorite images are.  Please vote on as many photos as you like that are your favorites.  Hope you´re having a wonderful day, and thank you so much!

Yosemite Fall Reflections and Friends

Friday, October 29th, 2010 at 4:46pm - Landscape

Yesterday I spent the day in Yosemite with 3 great friends.  The waterfalls are flowing from some early fall rains and snow, and golden autumn hue was just gorgeous.

It was an honor to share Yosemite with 2 friends who were seeing Yosemite for the the first time.  Connie and Ashley had never seen Yosemite Valley before, and what a glorious day we had.  Connie and I started out the day photographing the beautiful morning, and then we met up with Mike and Ashley to hike to Sierra Point.  We also made it to the base of the Royal Arches Cascade, where we caught a fantastic sunset.

Sabrina Basin Fall Glow ~ High Sierra Landscape Photography

Monday, October 25th, 2010 at 10:51pm - Landscape

Today I went up and explored the Sabrina Basin after the last few days storms, and the fall color was still spectacular!  I arrived with a friend at an area just as the last light was creeping down, and I ran up this hillside to get to the perfect spot to capture the last light glow on the Aspens.  I love moments like these :)
