This fall I´ve had the incredible opportunity to collaborate on a music and video project with one of the most talented musical artists I´ve ever met, Kirsi Ranto from Jalasjärvi, Finland. Kirsi reached out to me back in May, after seeing my short films "Yosemite Range Of Light" and "Welcome To The Outside". We quickly became friends, and have been able to continually inspire each other by sharing our excitement for creating art and spreading love.
We decided to work together on a project that I´ve been dreaming up for quite some time. After getting to know Kirsi a little bit better, I knew she was the perfect person to collaborate with. I´ve been wanting to create Video Essence Portraits of artists, that capture the essence of someone, and combine their art with my own in a way that allows us to synergize together and come up with something greater than we could achieve on our own. In this modern age of the world wide web with opportunities opening up at a global scale, I feel its very important for artists to have a video that captures their essence and their spirit, and allows people to really get a feel for not only their art, but the person and soul behind the art.
Working with and getting to know Kirsi has been inspiring beyond measure. The passion and joy she brings to her music is so uplifting and filled with love; and I can´t help but feel that as she´s starting to write more music in English, that her ability to reach more people and to spread love will continue to grow. It´s been an amazing honor to work with her, and I´ve been waiting patiently for the day when I could start to share some of her music, because its so beautiful, and powerful, and you need to hear it :)
I´d love to share below one of the songs that we filmed and recorded live when I was in Finland this September. While our finished piece will include interviews, narration, music, shots from around her home village of Jalasjärvi, and much more; after hearing Kirsi play live, I knew we also had to release some of the live recordings of her songs as music only. There´s just something so powerful and moving in seeing Kirsi sitting at her piano playing and singing live. I still get chills every time I watch.
This first song is called "Anna Mun Tulla Kotiin" ("Let Me Come Home"). Kirsi wrote this song a few years ago, and it was first released on her album Läikytät Mua (released in 2010). I love that the first song we´re releasing is in Finnish, because I feel it will give people who don´t understand Finnish the opportunity to really feel her passion and heart without trying to understand the words. I love this song, and hope you enjoy :)
You´ll also find below lots of images, some screenshots, and BTS shots from our time together. We both realized during my trip here in September, that we have a grand opportunity to create something really beautiful with the synergy of our arts, so I am actually back in Finland right now and we are working together again.
What began as an idea to make a short film has blossomed into a much grander vision. We love working together, and our synergy continues to grow as we get to know each other better. This trip we have focused more on photography, which has led us to an incredible place that we would have never even imagined at the beginning of this trip; the lanch of Kirsi´s new website! I encourage you to check out her new site, as it really gives an in depth look and feel into who Kirsi is.
Kirsi and I have the same mission in life, and that is to spread love. Its amazing what can happen when people come together in the name of love, and bring their combined talents together in a way that far outweighs the sum of the individual efforts. I hope that you enjoy Kirsi´s music, and we look forward to sharing much more as time goes on. Namaste :)
Since it will be a little while before we start releasing more videos, I thought I´d share a few screen captures from some of the footage we got. Kirsi lives in a gorgeous area, and it was totally different then my home was in California. It´s so exciting to shoot new in places! Recently I had the incredible opportunity to be interviewed by Ron Dawson for his Crossing The 180 podcast. Its a great podcast dedicated to getting to know film makers in a deeper way, beyond all the gear and tech talk (although there´s plenty of that too). I´ve actually been listening to Ron´s podcasts since he started his first one, F Stop Beyond. I´ve secretly always wanted to be on one of his podcasts, so when Ron got in touch recently wanting to interview me, I was thrilled.
We talk about all kinds of stuff from what got me started in photography, to how I transitioned into film making, and what led me to create my recent viral video "Yosemite Range of Light". I actually hired Ron to create some promo videos for me a couple of years ago, I love his work. I´ve included below both my recent "Yosemite Range of Light" video which inpsired Ron to have me on the show, and the videos we produced together a few years back for my business.
So grab your favorite beverage, and either sit back and relax, or get some work done while you listen, but I hope you enjoy the stories.
Here´s "Yosemite Range of Light", my recent timelapse piece which has gone viral and reached over a million people.

Sheri and Chris had a beautiful, intimate wedding in Yosemite. They were joined by their parents and three friends to celebrate their love for each other. With both of them being outdoor lovers, Yosemite was the perfect place for their wedding., and we had a gorgeous day. They were so much fun, and their love for each other was so infectious. We got some amazing images. Thank you Sheri and Chris for being so incredible.

Last week I had the amazing opportunity to go shoot in Big Sur again, one of my favorite sections of coast I´ve ever experienced. I was working on a secret shoot with Tom Lowe´s Dreamcore Productions, and got some wonderful experience with the RED Epic camera and operating a Kessler Crane. Of course I had to shoot some stills and time-lapse as well! We were stoked to get some really nice sunsets, and as always its amazing to shoot the ocean after spending so much time in the mountains and desert.
Last year in May I also got to shoot Big Sur, and just like last year I had a couple of Canon´s Tilt Shift lenses with me, the 17TS and the 24TS. Shooting Tilt Shift is very challenging and constantly makes me have to really focus on my composition and focus, and pay extra attention to composition. I love this challenge. I must also note that beside being able to shoot Tilt and Shift with these lenses, that they make insanely sharp primes. All the images above that have no Tilt or Shift in them were taken with the same 2 lenses. Canon´s 17TS is absolutely one of my favorite all time lenses, and is always a treat to have around when I rent it from LensProToGo.com. I encourage you to check it out sometime!

Shooting timelapse has become an absolute passion for me, as it allows me to capture the beauty of this dramatic landscape I live in and really bring it to life. Please watch my latest work "Yosemite Range of Light". I created this piece to show the beauty and awe of Yosemite National Park and the High & Eastern Sierra. It is also meant to be a reel of my best work. If you are looking for footage to license, or would like to contract me to shoot a project for you, please be in touch.
Yosemite, the High Sierra, and the Eastern Sierra are some of the most beautiful places on earth. Ever since I serendipitously won a trip to Yosemite when I was 18, the beautiful Range of Light has captured my heart and become my home. Nothing brings me more joy than to share this life changing beauty with others. Ever since I became fascinated with timelapse photography almost 2 years ago, I’ve wanted to do a piece on Yosemite & the Sierra. Now after almost two years of shooting, I´m thrilled to share it with you. I hope you enjoy my vision of my home, the majestic Yosemite & Sierra. Best viewed Full Screen with Sound.

Sarah and Matthew had a glorious wedding celebration. They were joined by their wonderful friends and family at the Dawn Ranch, on the beautiful Russian River in Guerneville, CA. I´ve known Sarah for over 10 years. We met in Yosemite sharing our passion for rock climbing. Sarah is incredibly accomplished, yet so humble, so when she told me about Matthew, I couldn´t wait to meet him. I knew he must be special. When I met him, I was in awe of how much loving energy he radiated. They are two of the most beautiful people I know, inside and out. Their wedding was a perfect representation of their adventerous and loving spirit, and I was honored to be there with them.
Sarah and Matthew, thank you so much for having me capture your special moments and memories for you. You can watch the slideshow by pressing play, or you can see it in its own window here. Enjoy!

I have been going through my entire collection of work since I started shooting over the last few months as I´ve been preparing my soon to be announced Signature Collection of images. One of my favorite benefits of going through all my work has been to also find themes in my work, of which I´ll be starting to share over the next few weeks and months.
The first theme I´d like to share is Fall Color. Its such a short lived phenomena every year, but always brings me so much joy to go immerse myself in the beautiful, vibrant, natural color as the summer transitions to fall; my favorite time of year.

Paul Friedman, who started and runs Lens Pro To Go, has always been a very giving person who genuinely loves helping others and being of service. It couldn´t be more evident in the wonderful spirit that pervades his entire company, as they offer some of the best, and friendliest customer service I´ve ever experienced. They really are a family, and treat their customers like family.
Paul and his team have reached out to some very inspiring photographers and filmmakers to share their experience and knowledge with Lens Pro To Go´s customers through this new ViewFinders partnership, in hopes of expanding people´s creative horizons. Each month they will interview a different Viewfinder and share some recent stories and advice. They will also be opening up questions to their customers with awesome prizes for people´s whose questions are chosen.
I am thrilled to be the first Viewfinder that they´re going to interview. You can submit any questions you would like for them to ask me through the ViewFinders website. The three questions that get chosen will all win a 12x18 print of your choice from my soon to be announced Signature Collection!
